Let's talk about the Player-Character, Niisan.



Niisan is the avatar that the player takes on during the story Watashi no Otouto. Since the story is literally called 'My Little Brother', well, someone has to be the older sibling, of course. 

It ended up being an older brother due to the nature of the story being told. Since it has Biblical themes, a story of brothers seemed to fit better than a brother-sister pairing. We can look to stories like Cain and Abel and the way the movie The Prince of Egypt portrayed the brotherly relationship between Moses and the Pharaoh Ramses II. 

Niisan, however, is not a rival to Otouto, but rather someone who the latter idolizes. Otouto, who is religious, looks upon his brother as the 'ideal' human. Niisan is a good person just for the sake of being good--not because he fears God, such as the people who surround them.

We've included some earlier renditions of Niisan's design. We always wanted a soft, mature look for him, someone who looks like he needs to be protected. We were aiming for the feminine, pretty boy look. Did we succeed?
